Blog 08: Bluehost vs HostGator: The Amazing Control Panel Truth

HostGator control panel comparison with Bluehost

Introduction: Every host promises an “easy-to-use” dashboard — but as a total beginner, I found out fast that “easy” means different things at different companies. In this HostGator control panel comparison, I’ll explain what I found when comparing Bluehost and HostGator and how their control panels feel for beginners.

Bluehost: Control Panel

What works well:

  • Provides access to standard cPanel, with many tutorials available online for common tasks, less cluttered for beginners
  • One-click WordPress install right from the main dashboard
  • Helpful setup checklist guides you through the first steps

Where it falls short:

  • Some advanced cPanel features are tucked a layer deeper
  • A few upsells appear inside the dashboard during setup

HostGator Control Panel

What works well:

  • Uses standard cPanel, so tons of tutorials exist online for any question
  • Familiar layout if you’ve used other cPanel hosts before
  • One-click WordPress install available too

Where it falls short:

  • Standard cPanel can feel more cluttered and technical for a first-timer
  • Less hand-holding during initial setup compared to Bluehost’s checklist

So Which One Should You Pick?

If you’re brand new and want a guided hand-holding experience, Bluehost’s custom dashboard makes the first steps smoother. If you already know cPanel or plan to learn it anyway, HostGator’s standard setup works just as well.
